A little update on us...
OK, enough random blah blah. Here's some actual personal stuff.
It's been a real fun week here, with both of us being sick--but both with different things! Fortunately, neither one of us has caught the other's illness, or it would be even worse. But as it is, we kind of just look at each other a lot, and say "Urrr". But other than that, life's marvy.
We're both gainfully employed again. Working for competitors again! I'm working for a small networking startup, Silver Peak Systems, while Rita is working at a not-so-small, networking non-startup called...Cisco. The good news is that she's back in HF, or as they call it now, "UX", or User eXperience. Which always freaks me out a bit when I hear her talking about "UX", after having worked on HP-UX for so long, which we called "UX".
My commute is now shorter than hers. Neener, neener.
We did some (de)construction on our yard. We no longer have the stupid "rocks sticking out of concrete" trip hazards out front (What were they thinking?!), and...we no longer have a pool!
Yea! We're pretty happy with our contractor, Bjurman General Engineering And Construction. He said that it would take a week, and it did. He was cheaper than the other quote I got, and he did a complete removal, while the other guy wanted to leave it there and bury it. Oh, and tear up our retaining wall, too. And maybe our trees. Bjurman didn't do any of that, and he took good care of us.
Here's pictures of the pool going, going, gone!. Then we had them pack in the dirt--it cost a bit extra, but we went for the "make it like it was never there", as opposed to the "you can never build on it" approach--until we ended up at Pool? What pool?

Well, time to update the ol' blog. Well, way past time, actually, but...First I had to update old entries that had pictures in Yahoo photos, as they've now closed. So now I'm using Photobucket, which my son turned me on to. I know, I could use flicker like yahoo wanted me to, but since when have I followed directions? And hey, Photobucket is part of Google's attempt to take over the world ("We are lab mice bent on world domination").
Speaking of photos, here's a few interesting sites I ran across while looking for a screen saver that does a better job of displaying random photos than the one in XP, which is not random at all. These sites reach out to a photo-sharing site, and just grab a random bunch of images. One is right here in blogger-land. Here's a few more, or just google the two words random photos. In a way, it is kind of weird, maybe voyeuristic? looking at random people's random photos. But kind of fascinating, too.
Anyway, here's sites for flickr, more flickr and yet more flickr. Maybe people use flickr a lot, or maybe they have an easy API...There's also one for a site called shutterpoint, and one for pbase. I couldn't find one for photobucket, though. (Hey, and my album's marked private, anyway...)
In terms of uniqueness, or maybe just feeling a bit edgy or more voyeuristic--there's foundphotos, which shows images found on p-to-p sites like kazaa and limewire. Kind of like a view into the netherworld of file sharing sites.
Finally, there's one that looks for photos on google, based on the standard file names that digital cameras use. In one sense, this site gives you some idea of how popular different cameras are, just based on how many photos there are. Or maybe, how friendly and sharing the folks with those cameras are. Or maybe they're just lazy: They couldn't be bothered to give the photos a real name!
