A Claar family blog. Because blogging is cool.

It's really interesting. We've been married nearly 7 years now, and we hadn't been away from each other for more than a weekend. Now, Doug was going to India on a missions trip for ten days. He was a bit worried about me, and he said so in his support letter.

Well, he needn't worry. Besides having my job and my two classes to keep me busy, I actually had so many invitations that I had to turn some down! I had a mid-term in my Law Office Management class to study for, and so that kept me busy, too.

The first weekend Doug was in India, Tiffany came by to hang out. Although it was St. Patrick's Day, and theoretically we should have had corned beef and cabbage, we're both avid seafood lovers, so I was inspired to make cioppino (a seafood stew--the Italian form of bouillabaisse). It was delicious! We had some white sangria with it, and it was delightful.

Then, we decided to watch the movie, "In Her Shoes." It was actually quite cute, not exactly what I expected, and we both enjoyed it. When we had gone to Idaho earlier this year, Mom had shown me how to make those fuzzy/hairy scarves that are so popular. I had gone to Beverly's and picked up some yarn to make some for me and the girls, so while we were watching the movie, I made Tiffany one. Hers was made with beige, brown, pink and beige and pink yarn. It was very cute and she liked it.

On Saturday, we woke up and had a sumptuous breakfast of French Toast, bacon, and coffee. After breakfast, we exercised my shopping gene. (I only have a small one, so it needs to get let out every now and then.) We went to Oakridge Mall and had fun going in and out of shops, looking for clothes. Since it was her birthday, I was treating her to stuff. We saw some really cute things, but nothing much seemed to catch her eye. Then, we went to Target, of all places.

She picked up the cutest pair of silk pajamas--they were a creamy yellow color, with Japanese parasols all over it. They were darling! I liked them so much that I went back to Target later in the week and bought myself a similar pair. We don't have the same coloring, so I got one that was pinks and lavenders, with a Japanese pattern on them. It was fun! Finally, we went for "lunch" to the Cheesecake Factory, and we ordered this unbelievable appetizer sampler. It was just plain *huge* and had all kinds of stuff in it--we couldn't finish it at all!

Then, the following Friday, it was Bekah's turn. She came over, and we had an Asian-themed dinner, too. I had planned on chicken teriyaki and rice, but I also decided that we needed to try our hands at making potstickers, or Gyoza.

We had so much fun! Rebekah assembled the filling, while I worked on the dough. Once I finished with the dough, I showed Bekah how to stuff them, and she did the rest. Then, I cooked them, and we sat and ate them joyously! We used our Japanese dishes and matching chopsticks, and made green tea. It was very cool. We even stopped by Trader Joe's and got mochi for dessert.

Once we were done eating, we played with our hair for a while, putting it up in different ways--French Twist, buns, and variations on ponytails. Once we got bored with that, we decided to watch something. I was thinking a movie, but Rebekah had brought over the Cowboy Bebop anime box set and she proceeded to show me about 5 or 6 of her favorite episodes.

It's very fascinating--not as cute as Fruits Basket, which she now adores (Ro was right), but it was fun. My favorite episode (so far) was by far the strangest--it was one where something in the refrigerator has been there so long, it takes on a life of its own and menaces the spaceship--until it meets Ed. I won't tell you any more, just in case a) you ever intend to watch it, and b) just in case you intend to dine again.

Saturday morning, Bekah and I had breakfast (again, French Toast, coffee, and bacon, but this time with eggs), and then we headed out for our shopping extravaganza. It was Bekah's birthday too (three days before Tiffany), and so this was her birthday treat. We went to Oakridge, and immediately headed to her two favorite stores, Torrid and Hot Topic. At Torrid, we got her a silver cuff and a pair of "gauntlet-type" gloves – they were black with red ribbons on them--very Goth, very cute, actually.

We checked out Hot Topic, but unfortunately, it didn't have any of the clothes she was looking at, so we surmised that the stores must have different stock. So, we headed up to Valley Fair, to the other Hot Topic. There, we bought a pair of black pants with chains and eyelets, and to go with the pants, we got three very cute tops. She was quite excited.

I took her to lunch at Panda Express, a small Asian fast-food restaurant whose claim to fame is an Orange Chicken dish that she (and as I observed, many others) love. It was very fun--we chatted and ate, and she was very excited to have her new clothes!

I didn't have time to do anything with Matthew, but frankly, that would have been a tad strange. Nonetheless, I had decided that if my CEO was looking for people to come sit in his box suite at the Arena to watch the Sharks, Matt would have been my first choice to accompany me while Doug was gone. Alas, that didn't happen.

While Doug was gone, it was nice to have the time and the house to myself. But, it was *wonderful* to have him home again! I so missed him!
